Mission Burrito

An absolute legend was forged in the fiery heart of San Francisco's Mission District! Sometime back in the swinging sixties, a culinary behemoth was born: the Giant, Stuffed, Foil-Wrapped Burrito. This magnificent monster is the ancestor of nearly every burrito you've ever loved, and the debate over its birthright is as hot as a jalapeño.

Two titans still battle for the crown: Taqueria La Cumbre, which confidently claims the title and still serves its famous creation today, and El Faro, another Mission staple that insists it wrapped the first one. Legend has it that this original masterpiece was crafted to satisfy the superhuman hunger of local firefighters!

The formula for this enduring icon is pure genius: a steamed, colossal flour tortilla laid out like a silver scroll, then piled high with savory layers of rice, beef, beans, and cheese. It’s so influential that even Chipotle's founder made a pilgrimage to these taquerias for inspiration. The Mission Burrito isn't just a meal; it's a foil-wrapped piece of San Francisco history!
