Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manual (One Page)
Purpose
This EHS manual outlines safety standards for all employees, contractors, and visitors working within the studio. The goal is to maintain a safe, clean, and hazard-free environment while protecting people, equipment, and property.
Studio Description
The studio includes:
Two workstations with desktop computers
Two camera systems with lighting equipment
Prop room with dishes, glassware, flatware, and décor items
Surface and backdrop library
Live kitchen for food preparation
Lifestyle shooting areas (living & dining spaces)
General Safety Guidelines
Keep walkways clear of cables, props, and equipment.
Do not climb on unstable surfaces or shelving; use only approved step stools and ladders.
Report unsafe conditions, spills, or broken equipment immediately.
Wear closed-toe shoes at all times in the studio and kitchen areas.
No running or horseplay in the studio.
Substance Abuse & Impairment Prevention
To ensure safety within the studio, all individuals must report to work free from impairment related to alcohol, cannabis, illegal drugs, or misused prescription medications. Supervisors will use reasonable-suspicion visual assessment to identify potential impairment based on observable behavior, speech, appearance, and motor coordination. If impairment is suspected, the individual may be removed from the work area and an Impairment Observation Form will be completed. The studio reserves the right to implement further evaluation or send an individual home to protect staff, equipment, and property. No discipline is taken solely based on medical need or employee disclosure of treatment, but working while impaired is strictly prohibited.
Electrical & Equipment Safety
Inspect cords, lights, and cameras before use; do not use damaged equipment.
Avoid overloading power strips; use surge protection for computers and lighting.
Turn off and unplug lighting equipment when not in use.
Do not adjust equipment directly after use when hot (strobes, continuous lights, burners, ovens, etc.).
Prop Room & Surface Library Safety
Handle glass, ceramics, knives, and other sharp objects with care.
Store heavy items on lower shelves; do not stack unstable props.
Use both hands when carrying breakables; never carry more than a safe load.
Clean and dry props before returning to storage.
Kitchen Safety
Follow all basic food-handling standards: wash hands, sanitize surfaces, and maintain refrigeration below 40°F.
Use oven mitts when handling hot pans; turn pot handles inward to prevent burns.
Clean spills immediately to prevent slips.
Knife safety: always cut away from the body, store safely when not in use. Use the cut proof gloves with knives, graters, and mandolins.
Lighting & Tripod Safety
Secure light stands and tripods with sandbags.
Do not reposition equipment while power is on.
Keep liquids away from electrical equipment.
